“Recognizing the need is the primary condition for design”-Charles Eames“Form ever follows function”-Louis Sullivan“Where there is no prophetic vision, the people are discouraged”Proverbs 29:18 (ESV)President and CTO of Brandon Industrial Ecosystems Partners. This represents a unique shift in my architectural practice. In my 4 decades of developing architectural projects for a host of clients, I have come to one conclusion – the client often doesn’t really know what he needs. I have always tried to start every new job with questions to determine the need and the program that will guide the project design. Some programs are unique. Frank Lloyd Wright’s ‘Falling Waters’ would be much less if it weren’t for the initial program he developed for siteing the house. Other programs, however, can be more generalized. In the past decade, through a process of attending conferences, presentations, continuing education events and self-study, I have developed and extensive generalized knowledge about biofuels and bio-products, agricultural practices and needs, renewable electrical energy and vehicle/engine design. At this point in my career, I am re-defining myself as an ‘Industrial Eco-Systems Planner’. I believe there is no such thing as wastes, only wasted resources. In nature, every critter’s waste becomes a resource for another. In our Paleolithic past some organisms were sequestered and are being reintroduced into our live cycle today and over the last century. Our need today is two-fold: (1 to reintroduce our anthropogenic wastes from today into a more natural and USEFUL life cycle, but also 2) to find ways to integrate and wined down our release of sequestered Paleozoic wastes which we have become dependent on and replace them with contemporaneous wastes. My primary focus is on Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) facility design and consulting, Biomass power and synthetic fuels from direct carbon capture from the air.
