Having served in the Public Transportation Industry for over 40 years has offered me tremendous growth opportunities. This started with working as a School Bus Driver while attending college, and continued into my later years at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) where I worked for nearly 35 years. My career at VTA began in March of 1979 in the position of Assistant Scheduler. From there, I spent the next 34+ years working my way up through the VTA ranks until ultimately reaching the level of Deputy Director of Operations. I officially retired from VTA in December 2013, but continue to serve as a volunteer on VTA's Deferred Compensation Committee.

The VTA Deferred Compensation Committee is charged with the responsibility of providing its participants a variety of investment options to choose from in accordance with their own personal risk vs. return investment strategy.
Deputy Director, Bus And Rail Transportation (Retired)
Responsible for the daily operation of VTA's bus and rail services. This included three Motor Coach divisions, one Light Rail division, Field Supervision, the Operations Control Center, and two Training Departments (bus and rail). Other areas of responsibility included:Serving as Director of VTA's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) responsible for developing VTA's Emergency Operational Plan, conducting annual regional excercises, and coordinating with other EOC's within the San Francisco Bay Area Region.Serving as a Trustee on the VTA/ATU Board of Pensions which oversaw the pension fund for VTA's employees represented by the Amalgamated Transit Union;Representing VTA on various committees and regulatory bodies including the California Public Utilities Commission, the American Public Transit Association, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and Homeland Security;Having a lead role in the development of an innovative joint labor/management pogram. Known as the Joint Workforce Investment (JWI) program, JWI was designed to enhance harmony within the workforce and create training opportunities for career advancement within the organization. JWI received national attention and was recognized for its achievements by the Secretary of Labor.

This included developing VTA's bus route network, operating schedules, and operator runcuts for VTA's bus and light rail system. The duties also included placement and maintenance of VTA's bus stops and transit centers, and conducting public meetings to present service plans and solicit comments from the community.
