Managed a donor center and active transfusion service comprised of 22 staff members with a budget of over $800,000 plus blood costs. The transfusion service provided over 3,000 blood products each year. The donor center collected on average 2,500 blood products each year and prepared multiple components from each whole blood donation. Established protocols that led to licensure of four blood products. Performed multiple collateral duties. Appointed Laboratory Manager in 1996 as the facility closed. Responsible for 40 personnel; developed protocols for cross-training and to prepare equipment and archived records for transfer to alternate sites.

> Determined free hemoglobin levels in salvaged blood during CABG open heart surgery.> Measured tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) levels during orthotopic liver transplant.> Developed methods for measuring residual platelet count in leukoreduced blood products. > Determined platelet activity and viability in leukoreduced pheresis products using the new Pall leukoreduction filter. Performed platelet aggregation assays, ELISA to detect secreted platelet activation, and flow cytometry to determine exposure of platelet receptors.
