He’s also a fifth-generation farmer, grounded in the work ethic and values that allowed his family business to sustainably survive and thrive since his great-grandfather homesteaded it 140 years ago. Adding to Bill’s unique background as a farmer is his perspective and experience as a lawyer and government official. He’s served as South Dakota’s Secretary of Agriculture, as well as Director of the Governor's Office of Economic Development and Energy Policy Director for the state. Before joining National Pork Board, Bill was at DuPont Pioneer, now Corteva Agrisciences, where he led global industry relations and then business operations for one of Pioneer’s regional commercial units. Whether dealing with ag policy, energy and food security issues in Washington, DC, managing state agencies, leading a regional business team, leading farmer-owned Checkoff organizations or simply working on the farm, Bill enjoys strategy, variety, challenges, leading others and giving back to society.
