Prior to Essential, I was an independent UX consultant after working at Scient / Razorfish, Director in the Customer Experience Innovation Center. At Fitch, I worked as an industrial designer soon gravitating to the company’s research and strategy practice. Invited speaker at industry and academic events including IDSA/ICSID, DMD, DMI, RISD, Babson, Design Museum Boston, Stanford MedicineX, Fidelity Investments, and MassChallenge. Client work published in Designing for Growth as well as Solving Problems with Design Thinking (both Columbia University Press) and received Fast Company's IDEA/IDSA and iF's International Forum awards. I co-authored a chapter (Designing Human-Robot Relationships) with Scott Stropkay in O’Reilly’s Designing for Emerging Technologies. My academic work includes an A.B. from Davidson College and a Master’s degree in Human-Centered Design from the Institute of Design (IIT, Chicago. Thesis project was awarded the Braun Prize. Essential serves clients in medical/biotech/pharma, robotics, hi-tech, consumer electronic, pro audio, financial services, software, instrumentation, e-government. Significant experience with ethnography, contextual inquiry, participatory design & co-creation, opportunity mapping, journey mapping, personas, concept testing, usability testing, and quality management (ISO13485 Compliant). -
