I have been in various nursing positions since I graduated in 1995. This includes floor nurse, clinical supervisor, MDS documentation specialist, admissions reviewer, unit manager, interim director, Quality Management of PSI Indicators, VTE, Sepsis. Each position has had direct education for nursing staff, physicians and presentations to administration. 2009 - received a multi state award for outstanding nursing service. Additionally received a similar award for nursing within Presbyterian Hospital. Of all positions, working within Quality Management has been the most fulfilling. It has afforded the opportunity to see areas requiring improvement and to implement education, surveillance of specific measures to assure processes are in place and identify fallouts and re-educate. I take pride in accomplishments and take responsibility for those areas not meeting goals. In those cases, it is again requires a new approach to further training…identifying the issues, the knowledge base, the resources…trust but verify!Teamwork is a necessity. Clearly stated goals, support of administration without micromanaging. And above all else to allow your input to any process change if you are the owner of a process or procedure and you are the subject matter expert. Without these you are setting up for failure.
