Bill is a retired partner and former Managing Partner of Plante Moran.Plante Moran is among the nation's largest accounting, tax, consulting, and wealth management firms and provides a full line of services to organizations in the following industries: manufacturing and distribution, financial services, service, healthcare, private equity, public sector and real estate and construction. He became a partner in 1981 and in 1982 he was asked to help launch the firm’s first office in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He led that office until 1994 and then served on the firm’s management team from 1994-2001. He was then elected Managing Partner and from 2001 – 2009, Bill led Plante Moran’s growth, expanding the firm's geographic footprint and broadening its service capabilities.After stepping down as Managing Partner, Bill led Plante Moran’s Service Industry practice and coordinated the firm’s International Practice. Since retiring, Bill has provided operational, succession planning, and strategic consulting to numerous professional firms in North America, Australia and New Zealand as well as served as a coach and mentor for partners at all levels in these firms. Bill is the author of two books, both of them focused on the importance of culture and staff development as the keys to sustainable organizations. Giving the Gift of a Career: A Roadmap for Individually Focused Staff Development, was published in 2020. In 2011 he and Gordon Krater co-authored Succession Transition – A Roadmap for Seamless Transitions in Leadership.
