I want to retire 'retirement' in my life, if only on a part-time basis. I don't find the argument for the leading cause of death among people over the age of 65 is retirement...., as short of controversial, long on truth.

ClericalUnited States Federal Government Aug 1985 - Dec 2004Louisville, Kentucky AreaThe position began as medical secretary in 1985 when I began. I had worked at the U.S. Census Bureau, Avon Military Depot near Lexington, KY and at Ft. Knox within the Judge Advocate General's employee pool part-time. During my employment at the V.A. Hospital in Louisville,KY. , I assisted the nursing staff in transcribing physician's orders which changed from 'hard copy' , hand's-on secretarial work involving several diverse responsibilities to a stream lined version when I took retirement in 2004 with 20 years of government work. I thrived in the environment of and interaction with medical professionals, co-workers, patients, and other job related personnel.

Medical Support ( Transcription)Dept. Of Veteran'S Affairs Aug 1985 - Dec 2004Louisville, Kentucky AreaA sedentary job transcribing medical orders somewhat before the heart and soul of a job was upgraded to electronic order input. I witnessed the change from the archaic chain of command when an ink pen was the tool, and transcription was the rule to a dream child introduced the tragic genius of electronics. Whoa to Hippocrates, Literally, the industry standard was changed to supplant the use of computer ordering data. I watched expectations from staff members reach a frenetic level of expectation, and it changed my job description until I became obsolete. The human element was transplanted with profit motives, and from what I can gather, the spirit of enjoying work evaporated. Luckily ( or not), I developed a serious disability, and opted out right on the day my 20 year pension was achieved. Now I write novelettes, play electric guitar like crazy, and do lots and lots of yard work. Retirement is, ironically, when the real work begins. It's TOUGH !!!
