Suffering in silence can no longer be an acceptable method of coping with the emotional wellness challenges for public safety professionals. Approximately 30% of first responders develop behavioral health conditions, including depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress (PTS), compared to 20% in the general population.How do we heal our first responders and drive a culture of wellness and resilience?After 22 years in law enforcement, where I served on the SWAT Team, the K9 Unit, and other high-stress assignments compounded by working under toxic leadership, it became extremely evident that I had neglected my mental wellness while being a resource for others. I had built up my backlog of emotional injuries, and my career took a drastic turn. My doctor placed me on medical leave and told me if I returned to that environment, it would kill me.This was when I discovered:▶️mindfulness stress reduction techniques▶️meditation▶️emotional intelligence ▶️trauma-informed practicesFrom suffering in silence to strength through resilience, I decided to settle for better. I started a new career in the private sector, using my EQ to excel in corporate leadership. I have successfully conquered my PTS and burnout to become the better version of myself that my family, friends, co-workers, and community deserve.I champion mental wellness for public safety professionals and am dedicated to facilitating healing, resilience, and leadership in all aspects of public safety.
