An accomplished long term CEO, Bill is Vice Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Directors of the international food retailer Ahold Delhaize, past Chair of the Remuneration Committee (7 Years), and currently a member of the Governance Committee and the Health & Sustainability Committee. Bill is a Board Director of Interac Corp. and Chair of the Governance Committee & member of the Audit & Finance Committee and Independent Committee. Bill is past Chairman of the Board of Aimia Inc. and past Chair of the Aimia Human Resources Committee.In 2000, Bill was appointed President & CEO and Director of Sobeys Inc., a leading coast to coast to coast Canadian grocery retailer and food distributor, also serving on the Board of Directors of Sobeys’ parent company, Empire Company Limited (TSX:EMP.A). At Sobeys, Bill was responsible for the leadership and oversight of all aspects of growing the company from a $9B to a $17B organization by leading the development, stewardship and execution of the company’s long-term strategic plan and executing Sobeys’ food-focused growth initiatives. Bill enjoyed his leadership role until making the personal decision to step down in June, 2012.Between 1989 and 2000, Bill held a variety of progressively senior marketing and merchandising roles in the Retail and CPG industry with Super Valu, Coca-Cola Ltd. and Coca-Cola Bottling as well with the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P) in Canada and the U.S. He served as President of A&P’s Canadian operations before his appointment as President and CEO of the company’s U.S. Atlantic Region.Bill began his career at Ferraro’s Ltd., Super Valu Stores, and enjoyed the experience and learning over 13 years in B.C. and Alberta in a variety of store and district operations, merchandising, procurement and general management roles.Bill has played an active leadership role in a number of industry and charitable organizations. He served on the Board of Directors of the global Consumer Goods Forum, Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors, Coca-Cola Research Council, Food Marketing Institute, The Grocery Foundation, The McEwan Family Foundation and Kids Help Phone. Bill was awarded :- the “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Retail Council of Canada in 2012.- the “Golden Pencil Award”, the Canadian Retail Food Industry’s highest honour, in 2005.- the Robert Boudrais Award for “ Industry Leadership” in 2007.
