Have you ever looked at some code and thought to yourself: "This is Sparta!" while imagining yourself kicking the faceless writer of that code? No? Well, maybe that's for the best. I'm a Server Developer/Analyst, which is a quick and buzzword-worthy way of saying that I make things no one ever sees - except other developers.Since no one sees what I create - and sometimes I do consider coding to be an art form - I like to be sure that they can at least see what I intend to create. I have found that by focusing my efforts on ensuring that the intent and requirements of the system are laid out bare to everyone involved. If everyone is on-board with the plan, from the client to the developer, I avoid all of those nasty hangups in the middle of the development cycle that keep developers drinking Jolt late into the night and clients wringing their hands in frustration saying things like "I didn't think it'd be like this."I've got one more little adage I'd like to propose to all the developers out there: "Commitment doesn't have to be scary word. Be kind to your fellow developers. Commit to unit testing before you commit to origin."
