I was a State Trooper for 26 years and served my last four years as the Colonel of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. As a public safety consultant with National Public Safety Group, we strive to help public safety agencies to understand, map and implement their software needs. I believe in proactive leadership-by-example and doing the right thing, in the right way, for the right reasons. Selected Career Highlights:- Directed operations of the State Highway Patrol and controlled $215M total budget. Oversaw State Capitol Police, Office of Professional Standards, Support Services, Field Operations, Training, and Technical Services. - Managed 2,408 direct/in-direct staff. Conducted 5-year strategic planning with senior staff, troopers, and civilians, ensuring benchmarks/milestones were met.- Data-driven Budgeting: Demonstrated responsible budgeting to obtain 153% increase in vehicle funding, 100% increase in clothing funding, reoccurring in-car video camera funding, and pay raises for all sworn members of Patrol.- Public Safety Innovation: Worked with State Legislature and secured funding for in-car cameras with advanced wireless technology that automatically downloads to servers. Oversaw the largest state-wide public safety radio system in the country.
