At the time, the Sydney office of Grant Thornton comprised some 67 partners and 400 people offering core assurance, taxation and accounting advice as well as specialist consulting, restructuring, corporate finance and forensic services.As Chairman my role was to support the partner team and clients in ensuring quality of service delivery; work with the local leadership team to build the Grant Thornton brand in NSW; and drive the right culture to allow our people to succeed. In addition I led the Consulting practice and personally provided a range of C Suite, Board consulting and mentoring services (with a particular focus on larger mid sized businesses and the NSW public sector) where support is needed to guide such organisations through change. Using my years of experience of consulting to underperforming businesses, I enjoyed driving strategy development and implementation within organisations aimed at avoiding pitfalls and improving both financial and non financial performance.

Grant Thornton Consulting bought together a diverse team of some 200 specialists offering consulting services aimed at improving the performance, governance and culture of the firm’s corporate, international and public sector clients.The GTC team's capabilities included strategic & growth advice; technology selection, optimisation and risk management; business risk advice and internal audit; performance improvement services aimed at improving efficiency, driving integration and building profit; and human capital solutions from leadership training to outsourced HR and cultural transformation.As National Managing Partner my role was to establish the business, drive performance, and build out the range of services GTC offered, ensure the quality and consistency of their delivery and help GTCs people grow as consultants and leaders.

I founded and lead the Australian Financial Advisory team of Grant Thornton, which team comprised some 27 Partners and 200 People located in all major cities across the country. The team supported the growth ambition of Grant Thornton's clients through delivering transactional (M&A), restructuring, valuation, investigative and performance improvement services.

Responsible for the delivery of corporate restructuring and insolvency solutions by Grant Thornton personnel across Australia. Retired as a Registered Liquidator on 30 June 2019 after 20 years.

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) is the leading ocean racing yacht club in Australia and home of the iconic Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. A member of the Board since 2006, I Chaired the Board as elected Commodore of the Club for my maximum two year term before retiring in August 2020. In this role I worked with the eight other directors, management, sponsors and most importantly our 3,000+ members to grow the success of both the Club and the sport of sailing. Highlights of my term included the planning and implementation of the clubs redevelopment; oversight of 14 editions of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race (culminating in the 75th race) including planning and risk management protocols for all elements of the toughest annual blue water race globally; development and implementation of a long term strategic plan; 2 stints as interim CEO; and presiding over an increase in member satisfaction to unprecedented levels.

As founding Chair of The Grant Thornton Foundation I was proud to oversee the establishment of a charity that provides support to selected not for profit organisations active in the area of growing youth - both within Australia and throughout the Asia Pacific region. The Foundation is funded by the People of Grant Thornton and is the core part of the firms Corporate Social Responsibility program. Following my initial three year term, extended to four years, on 30 June 2018 I stood down as Chair as part of a managed succession process.
