The new buzz words in the sales training world (both online and offline) have been “Social Selling” and “Content Creator” and now the new flavor of the day: AI.Many sales people as well as business owners and entrepreneurs struggle with the balance between leveraging great tools and platforms like LinkedIn and not falling into the trap of being that pushy salesperson stereotype.They also aren’t sure how the platform works, how to build a quality network or how manage that network to build relationships and trust.Most people on LinkedIn have profiles that are either heavily about them (their strengths, weaknesses, years of experience- basically a resumé) or their profile is trying to over-sell their product/service or ‘how they help’.There’s nothing wrong with wanting to help others, especially those you’re uniquely qualified to help. But if by helping someone they have to buy from you, well that’s kind of a bait and switch and people can smell that a mile away.By using your headline to communicate more than a job title and company you can start to show your value and availability to help while also expressing your humanity. The internet is full of automation and robots so look for a way to stand out and be HUMAN!I’ve been using LinkedIn for sales since 2013 and have been teaching others how to do the same thing since 2016. My journey and training philosophy has evolved from ‘you have to do it this way’ to ‘let’s find a way that is going to work for you’. This new evolving philosophy made me realize that there’s no one single way to approach sales- cold calling, email outreach, in-person, video, social, they all have their place and can all be effective. That realization has led me to start writing my book, “All Selling is Social” where I encourage salespeople, business owners and entrepreneurs to step out the silos or echo chambers that they’ve spent the most time in and try new and different things.If you’re a sales/marketing leader, business owner and/or entrepreneur and want to talk more about how “All Selling is Social” I invite you to a call.
