Work evolved, starting with the development of a Data Communications Basics course, for which the primary customers were Novell's Scandinavian distributors.Subsequently taught Novell's NetWare for SAA course, along with an IBM connectivity seminar for Novell Europe and its distributors.Wrote two books -- McGraw-Hill Data Communications Dictionary (1993) and The Simple Modem Book (Alpha Books Division of Prentice Hall, 1994).Taught over 130 Novell classes (NetWare for SAA, NetWare Connect, and Multiprotocol Router) in the US, Canada and Europe. Also taught two or three Microsoft classes (as Microsoft Certified Trainer).Undertook documentation projects (technical manuals) and a seminar project (Secure Virtual Private Networks). All clients were extremely satisfied. Clients included Combinet (acquired by Cisco), CommVision, Automation Tooling Company (ATC) and RedCreek Communications.Wrote Bushopedia (2006).

Responsible for promoting Novell's micro-to-mainframe communications products in the international marketplace, intially in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and subsequently in the Pacific Rim.

Responsible for worldwide sales, through distributor/reseller network, of CXI's micro-mainframe products (which provided the functionality of IBM 3270 and 5250 terminal systems on personal computers and over LANs).(CXI was acquired by Novell during my tenure in this position.)

Responsible for product definition, product management and marketing for products emulating IBM 3270 and 5250 terminals on personal computers.

Responsible for Zentec Series 2000 Xenix-based multi-user computer.

Wrote book-length product requirement/definition statements for Datastream Communications and ICOT Corporation, plus sales manual and marketing guide for modem products for Prentice Corporation. Also produced color-slide-based company and product presentation for Prentice. Datastream and ICOT products allowed simple ASCII terminals (“glass teletypes”) to emulate IBM 3270 terminal products. Datastream and ICOT were subsequently acquired by other companies. Prentice Corporation disappeared (probably through acquisition).ICOT made offer of employment when they learned I had an offer from Zentec. I chose Zentec. It was a hard choice and no reflection on ICOT.

A major accomplishment was the creation of a sales seminar, designed to revitalize a moribund program, and the training, using the seminar, of sales staff in all of Memorex’s regional offices in the U.S. to sell the product by emphasizing the peace of mind aspect of what was the most reliable product of its kind. The result was a large increase in sales, with very high profitability.

Started as Systems Engineer. Eventually transferred to Memorex in Santa Clara, CA. Title shown applies to the months before the transfer. Along with others from the three US regions of Memorex, received the 1973 Memorex Award for Systems Engineering Excellence.

Don Mills, Ontario

Started as a program analyst in the Toronto Datacentre. Worked briefly on the Brokers and Investment Dealers Information System, then, in Montreal, on the Online Banking System. Finally worked in the IBM Canada Lab on Don Mills Road, still dealing with aspects of the Online Banking System. Developed many software tools for internal use. This included TOPS (Toronto Data Centre Operating System for the IBM 1401). Left in 1968 to become Director of Systems and Programming at the Ontario Ministry of Revenue. (Turned down an offer to stay that included a promotion to Advisory Systems Analyst.)
