A native of Oregon, I graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1996 with a degree in engineering, and then received my medical degree from the University of Utah in 2000 through the Health Professions Scholarship Program.After medical school, I completed an internship in Ob/Gyn at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA and then reported to Camp Lejeune, NC for a two-year tour as the battalion surgeon of 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, including a six-month unit deployment to Okinawa, Japan.After completing residency training at Portsmouth in 2006, I reported to Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms, serving as Department Head of Ob/Gyn from 2007 to 2009. I then pursued subspecialty training in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (Urogynecology), completing a three-year fellowship at Walter Reed-Bethesda in 2012. After fellowship I arrived at Naval Medical Center San Diego and served as Division Head of Urogynecology until 2014. During this time I established a minimally-invasive pelvic reconstructive surgery program as well as a formal, cadaver-based anatomy training program for residents.From 2014 to 2016, I left clinical medicine to assume duties as Officer in Charge of Fleet Surgical Team THREE and Task Force Surgeon for Amphibious Squadron ONE. During this time, I directed all medical care provided during a seven-month deployment of the USS BOXER Amphibious Ready Group to the Western Pacific and Middle East.In 2017, I returned to NMCSD where I currently practice the full spectrum of urogynecology, with special interest in minimally-invasive surgery and treatment of chronic pelvic pain. I am a member of the hospital’s credentials review committee and enjoy teaching within the residency program.I am board certified in Ob/Gyn and FPMRS, am a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and hold an appointment as Assistant Professor of Ob/Gyn through the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
