A journalist and early-career communications professional, Billy is an active member of Melbourne’s Indonesian diaspora and youth organisations.Before founding The Perantau, Billy has worked across several reputable and renowned independent institutions, such as Asialink, The Jakarta Post, and Tempo. Most recently, he was a Research Analyst at Bijak Memilih, an independent public policy movement initiated by Think Policy and What Is Up, Indonesia? (WIUI). He conducted policy research and legislative analysis on various topics related to Indonesia's democracy and development, such as the construction of the new capital city, the green economy, and the digital economy.Billy completed a Master of Global Media Communication at The University of Melbourne in 2023, graduating with First Class Honours and included in the 2023 Faculty of Arts Dean’s Honours List. He previously completed a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Melbourne in 2022, majoring in Media & Communications and Asian Studies.Throughout his studies, Billy has spent most of his time working with Indonesian youth organisations and non-profits. Before his post as General Secretary of the Indonesian Students Association of Victoria in 2023, he previously lead marketing efforts at the University of Melbourne’s branch for 3 years prior. He has also lead marketing teams at Solar Chapter Melbourne and the ASEAN Youth Organisation of Australia, while also a reporter for PPI TV.
