1. Self-sufficiently provides patient care for up to 2 allocated patients on a 36 bed Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit during a 12 hour AM or PM shift.2. Interacts with patients, staff members, medical practitioners, and family/friends to achieve expectations and address concerns.3. Retains yearly competencies and continuing education that is required by UAB Hospital and the Alabama Board of Nursing.4. Delivers patient and family education to meet expectations of the stay on the unit, upon transfer off the unit, and upon discharge home or to outside facility.5. Provides direct patient and family center care to meet the individualized needs of each patient.6. Gained experience with insertion/removal of Foley and IV catheters as well as PO/IM/SQ/IV medication administration, arterial blood draws, venous blood draws, tracheostomy care and suctioning, wound care, and dressing changes.7. Completed initial admission assessments to assess each patient’s situation in order to plan, implement and reevaluate the needs of each patient.8. Assist with arterial line and central venous line insertions as well as intubation.9. Manage external ventricular drains (EVD), lumbar drains, Jackson-Pratt drains, wound vacuums, ventilator settings, IV anti-hypertensive drips, vasopressor drips, insulin drips, anti-coagulation drips, sedations drips, opioid drips, anti-dysrhythmic drips, paralytic drips, external fixation/Halos, and traction.10. Serves as a Float Nurse to offer assistance in providing patient care, admissions, transfers, and discharges for other staff members.Serves as a leader, preceptor, and role model to all staff.
