Responsible for the oversight of the Utilization and Care Management for the following Western Bureau Programs: PHP Medi-Care Special Needs Plan), PHC (Medi-Cal HMO), Enhanced Care Management Program (ECM), Cal-AIMs Community Support Services for AHF, AHF Medi-Cal Waiver Program (MCWP), Ryan White Medi-Cal Subspecialty Program (CHAIN), Ryan White San Diego Program, and Ryan White Las Vegas Utilization. As such, the Associate Director develops strategic approaches based on performance, compliance, regulations, and deliverables to ensure each program requirements are met.

• Inform patients and/or caregivers/family about study requirements and obtain informed consent.• Coordinate scheduling for staff, patients, and study visits as required by study protocol.• Monitor study activities to guarantee compliance with protocols and with all applicable policies.• Maintain all required records of study activity and direct the requisition, collection, labeling, storage, and/or shipment of specimen to ensure protocol compliance.• Code, evaluate, and/or interpret collected study data and communicate findings with Principal Investigator or authorized individual.• Prepare for and/or participate in quality assurance audits directed by sponsors, federal agencies, or specifically designated review groups.• Assess eligibility of prospective subjects through methods such as: screening visits, medical record review, and/or discussion with providers.• Review scientific literature, participate in continuing education activities, and/or attend conferences/seminars to maintain current knowledge of clinical studies.• Coordinate subject’s appointments, procedures, or inpatient stays as required by study protocol.• Educate clinical/hospital staff for participation in protocol conduct, date gathering, and related conceptual concerns as applicable.• Identifies strategies to improve patient enrollment in research protocols in collaboration with other coordinators, staff, and Principal Investigator.• Develops Coordinator Binders for allocated protocols to ensure protocol compliance and complete source documentation.• Maintain contact with sponsor to plan and organize site appointments or to answer queries about concerns.• Negotiate and monitor study budgets as well as invoicing and reimbursing patients.• Serves as trainer/preceptor for new employees.• Oversees research assistance, patient navigator, and research specialist and handles problems that may arise.

1. Self-sufficiently provides patient care for up to 2 allocated patients on a 36 bed Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit during a 12 hour AM or PM shift.2. Interacts with patients, staff members, medical practitioners, and family/friends to achieve expectations and address concerns.3. Retains yearly competencies and continuing education that is required by UAB Hospital and the Alabama Board of Nursing.4. Delivers patient and family education to meet expectations of the stay on the unit, upon transfer off the unit, and upon discharge home or to outside facility.5. Provides direct patient and family center care to meet the individualized needs of each patient.6. Gained experience with insertion/removal of Foley and IV catheters as well as PO/IM/SQ/IV medication administration, arterial blood draws, venous blood draws, tracheostomy care and suctioning, wound care, and dressing changes.7. Completed initial admission assessments to assess each patient’s situation in order to plan, implement and reevaluate the needs of each patient.8. Assist with arterial line and central venous line insertions as well as intubation.9. Manage external ventricular drains (EVD), lumbar drains, Jackson-Pratt drains, wound vacuums, ventilator settings, IV anti-hypertensive drips, vasopressor drips, insulin drips, anti-coagulation drips, sedations drips, opioid drips, anti-dysrhythmic drips, paralytic drips, external fixation/Halos, and traction.10. Serves as a Float Nurse to offer assistance in providing patient care, admissions, transfers, and discharges for other staff members.Serves as a leader, preceptor, and role model to all staff.

1. Charge Nurse: Accountable for the management of a 27 bed Medical/Surgical- GI/Hepatology/Liver-Transplant Unit for an allotted 12-hour shift.2. Interact with patients, family members, and friends, medical practitioners, and staff to achieve the needs of the patient while meeting UAB’s Core Standards and expectations.3. Communicate staff needs, concerns, and suggestions to Nurse Manager.4. Deliver instruction, clinical assistance, and support to staff when necessary.5. Ensure that safe and excellent patient care is delivered at all times during each shift.6. Perpetuate the awareness of patient’s condition and staff efficacy.7. Coordinate appropriate placement of staff with corresponding assignments based on experience and acuity.8. Obtain staffing for current and oncoming shift as to provide safe care for patients in a cost effective method.9. Synchronize patient’s admissions, transfers, and discharges in a timely fashion.10. Frequently evaluate the nursing unit’s needs and resources for AM and PM shifts.11. Enable the growth and preservation of new staff by building a pleasant environment to work.12. Insure correct counts on narcotics and controlled substances.

1. Supervise care provided by a group of students (usually 6 to 8 students in a group) while they complete their clinical rotation in the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit.2. Teach students in the clinical area, demonstrate proper procedures, and answer questions pertaining to clinical matters. 3. Coordinate with clinicians at the clinical site to make student patient assignments.4. Discuss with students their concerns and/or problems directly or indirectly related to learning experience. 5. Responsible for assisting the students to develop an understanding of values, attitudes, and ideals appropriate to the health care profession. 6. Evaluate and grade student performance. Meets with students at midterm for formal evaluation and again at the end of the course as to progress and performance. 7. Maintain clinical standards and course expectations throughout each course or term. 8. Maintain the professional practice knowledge base needed to instruct learners in contemporary nursing practice.

1. Developed new educational programs for individual groups such as: Elementary Schools, Junior High School, High Schools, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, and Church Groups.2.
