From its inception in 1988, Five Horizons Health Services has offered HIV-related case management and prevention education services to the citizen of West Alabama. In February 2018, recognizing the minimal options for HIV medical care and complete lack of preventative services in West Alabama, the agency opened a medical clinic to focus on HIV care, prevention, and STI testing and treatment. At this time, the agency re-branded from West Alabama AIDS Outreach to Five Horizons Health Services.In July 2020, recognizing the dearth of HIV and prevention services in East Central MS, Five Horizons Health Services opened its clinic in Starkville, MS. This clinic serves a twelve- county rural area with nearly identical demographics and HIV risk factors as West Central Alabama.In 2022, to ensure that services to 2,000+ HIV patients continued unimpeded, Five Horizons assumed responsibility for the services of Medical Advocacy and Outreach (MAO) in 20+ counties in the Alabama Black Belt and Wiregrass Region. The ‘Five’ in Five Horizons Health Services refers to the agency’s fivepillars of service: 1) Medical Care, 2) Prevention, Outreach, and Testing, 3) Supportive Services, including HIV related Case Management and Counseling, 4) Research, and 5) Advocacy.
