About Billy Rye
I am a native of Detroit, Alabama and graduated from Sulligent High School in 1983. In 1988, I received a Bachelor of Science in Forest Management from Mississippi State University. For the next eight years, I coordinated the forest management programs of the Alabama Forestry Commission’s Northwest District. Specifically, I coordinated the agency’s involvement in cost-share programs, served as the District TREASURE Forest coordinator, provided training for District personnel on current forest management techniques, prepared forest management prescriptions, coordinated the District’s Southern Pine Beetle program, and served as an instructor for the statewide Forestry Academy. In June 1996, I left the Forestry Commission to fulfill a lifelong dream of owning my own business. I founded Forest Management Specialists, Inc. which specializes in helping landowners reach their forest management goals and in marketing timber in the Mid-South region. Since its inception, Forest Management Specialists, Inc. has assisted over 600 landowners in 5 different states. I am a Registered Forester in Alabama and Mississippi and am an Associate Broker with National Land Realty. I am actively involved with the Association of Consulting Foresters where I served as the Alabama Chapter Chair from 2021-2023, served on the national Strategic Efforts Task Force, graduated from the ACF Business Academy, and currently serve on the national Marketing Committee. I am also involved with other statewide and local forestry organizations. I am currently on the Board of Directors for the Alabama Forestry Association, provide free initial consultations for new members of the Alabama Forest Owners Association, serve as a speaker for multiple natural resource groups, and write articles for multiple conservation publications. My wife, Mary Frances, and I reside in Florence, AL. Our oldest daughter Taylor lives in Florence and our youngest daughter Anna Grace recently graduated the University of North Alabama with Degree in Communication.
