I can never remember at what point I decided computers would be a big part of my life, but it must've been very young because ever since I can remember I have always been fascinated by them. At first it was just the usual enjoyment of games (I'm looking at you Pajama Sam and Freddi Fish), but around high school I began to get curious about how they worked, and how could I get there?Before even getting to the software side of things, I became obsessed with the physical, and the summer after high school I finally had enough to build my own PC. Learning about each part, what it did, and how it interacted with the rest of the system cemented my decision: I would be a Computer Science major. During university, I ended up falling more in love with Software, how could I get those cold inanimate parts to solve math problems for me? To flip a coin for me? To play Hangman with me? To become a Discord bot my friends and I could interact with?That path led me to where I am today, a proud Software Developer at General Motors. Sure, writing code and seeing it work in a live environment is still rewarding to this day, but I think my favorite aspect of my job that I didn't have when coding was just a hobby was my team. Now I have new perspectives to work with and new skillsets to learn from. Every day I continue to learn and grow, learning about new frameworks and libraries like React.js, Angular, Spring Boot and learning about new tools I didn't use in college like Maven, Insomnia, Azure DevOps, Docker, etc. I love that there is a whole industry of knowledge that I didn't know about when coding was a hobby, and I can't wait to continue to learn and grow!
