The Software & Communications COE is a 55 person team tasked with developing the next generation products and reusable technologies required to drive a global, common communication and software platform across the Electrical Sector. Key accomplishments of the new effort include:Worked closely with Professor Jenna Date of CMU’s Human Computer Interaction department to add Design and Agile processes to the team’s core competencies.Created a dedicated Usability Design team with the charter to improve product and platform usability.Reorganized the development group into several multi-function feature teams consisting of development, test and design skills.Significantly reduced project overhead by moving all new development activities to a Scrum model utilizing 2-4 week sprints.Launched Power Xpert Insight (PXI) software, an easy to use and deploy monitoring solution for power distribution systems. A hardware based companion to PXI will launch in Q4 of 2014.Assembled and led cross functional team to develop Eaton’s Internet of Things (IoT) strategy to allow internal business units to easily offer cloud based services to customers using Eaton’s devices in the field. As the business was primarily an internal supplier (70% of sales were intercompany) the full value of the business as measured in end customer revenue was $50M at 54% ROS. The differentiation is provided by supplying an integrated power quality system consisting of software, connectivity and metering products. Key accomplishments include:Moved the business unit from significant financial loss in 2006 to break even in June 2007. For the 5 fiscal years of 2006-2010, increased revenue by 42% and return on sales from -4% to +21%.Delivered the first 5 products of the PowerXpert® Architecture integrated suite in March 2007. Delivered the remaining products from of the original strategy by June 2009. In 2010, 57% of the group’s revenue was from new, PowerXpert® products.Responsible for 10 person dedicated sales team responsible for selling Software & Meter products and Systems Integration Services.In initially establishing the group in 2005, brought together 4 separate product lines in 5 US locations and focused them on developing a single, integrated suite of products serving the entire Electrical Group of Eaton.Realigned the locations for efficiency and reduced cost, by consolidating into two locations in the US and opening a new location in Pune India.
