Investigating the novel role of an F-box protein in DNA damage repair. Using a combination of confocal microscopy, molecular biology and biochemistry techniques.

I investigated the role of let-7 microRNAs in the maturation and activation of non-diabetic and diabetic derived macrophages as a potential therapeutic strategy for the treatment of chronic wounds in diabetes. I isolated, cultured and activated murine bone-marrow derived macrophages, extracted RNA for qRT-PCR and performed RNA in situ hybridisation on harvested wound tissue sections.

Conducted a research project at The University of Copenhagen for the third year of my undergraduate degree. I designed and conducted a high-throughput genetic screen to determine cis- and trans-acting factors important for heterochromatin-euchromatin boundary formation in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe. I identified Rif1 as a potential factor regulating these expression-state boundaries and following further research the work was published (Toteva et al. 2017 and Jahn et al. 2018).
