• In my role at this marine technology company I have enjoyed working on a wide range of design and development activities for the AWS-III wave energy convertor:
• Carried out structural design of main components of a large-scale test rig, now fabricated and ready for assembly and deployment at Lyness, Orkney. This included hydrodynamic loading and structural engineering.

• Worked on development, selection and refinement of new absorber concept, including functional analysis, numerical modelling of different configurations, and design of a test programme for inflatable fabric structures.
• Derived and modelled structural scantlings of full scale prototype AWS-III hull according to Lloyds/DNV rules.
• Specified and interpreted results from materials testing to derive inputs for FEA of coated structural fabrics.

• In this placement with Interserve Scotland I worked for just under one year looking at improving the energy use of the hospital:

• I first designed, constructed and tested a small prototype to evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed larger-scale project given the limitations of the materials, tools and skills available.
• I built and programmed an Arduino-based data logging system with which to monitor the system.
• I undertook a survey of the hospital’s energy use and investigated the potential benefits, costs andrisks of implementing technologies such as photovoltaics and LED lighting at this site. Show less

• SAFC spun out of St Andrews University in 2005 to develop an innovative design of solid oxide fuel cell. The small size of the team enabled me to make valuable contributions to a variety of areas:
• Design - developed concept designs for stack architecture; undertook 3D CAD design of ceramic components (in contact with ceramic manufacturers) and test equipment components; developed and implemented new part.

Various agency positions including work for City of Edinburgh Council and an NHS Primary Care Centre. Also, organising my wedding, setting up a new home and learning to drive.

A temporary position as an admin assistant, including some AutoCAD work, co-ordinating the Depotʼs migration to a new email system, and programming work to improve the existing database system.

After leaving university I took time out to produce an album with my band DLDown, in which I was the driving force in song writing, recording, mixing, production, artwork and web design. An initial run of home-produced CDs yielded a large enough profit to have a larger number professionally replicated.

A summer position updating their existing (25 year old) sea loch catalogue using up-to-date computer map- work techniques and taking part in a scientific sampling cruise around the West Coast of Scotland.
