Conducted a senior research project under the supervision of Gray E. Bebout. The goal of the project was to determine the amount of carbon being subducted into the Sunda-Banda Arc, Indonesia. Ran goechemical analyses on over 100 sediment samples taken from the Indian Ocean. The project required long hours in and out of the lab, designing and conducting lab work as well as reading and synthesizing background literature. Presented the results of the project at the Earth and Environmental Science Undergraduate Symposium at the end of the year.

EarthScope is a systematic effort by the scientific community to map the Earth beneath the United States using seismology and Earthquake sensors. Over the past 10 years, an array of 2,000 sensors have been systematically swept across the country, spending two years at each location. A recon member was required to choose the best possible location to host an Earthquake sensor. Once a suitable location was chosen on GoogleEarth, the teams had to drive out to the area and speak to landowners about hosting a site on their property. Due to the difficulties of dealing with government land, it was preferred that the sites be on private property. This job required patience and excellent people skills.
