Colleagues describe him as "Brent Kawamura is a delight to work with; a unique combination of immense knowledge in his field of work, sustainability, paired with a listening ear who takes the time to listen and understand others. I've had the pleasure of working with Brent both in his role as Sustainability Manager at PCC Community Markets and his role as the Sustainability Program Manager at REI. We also served, side by side, on a City of Bellevue advisory committee on sustainability. I have always found Brent to be a consummate professional with all the wisdom and strength to lead and the empathy and compassion to collaborate with anyone. Brent has been a pleasure to work with and our interactions have been a distinct pleasure, over the years.", "It was a great pleasure working with Brent for over two years. Brent consistently maintained high quality work while making sure the client's needs and requests have been met throughout the lifespan of the project. At the start of his tenure at stok, Brent took upon himself to learn as much as possible and to streamline and increase the efficiency of the client-stok relationship. I am extreamly proud of his work and personal accomplishments and believe that wherever he works and whatever he does, he brings hard work, joy and a great attitude along the way.", and "During Brent's internship at Silicon Valley Power, he was responsible for a project to test Tier II Advanced Power Strips in customer's homes in order to gather data on energy savings, as well as customer acceptance of the new device. Data collected was then used to determine the energy savings potential if these devices were to be included in an energy efficiency program and Brent's final report included recommendations for program implementation.
From the first day, Brent took initiative and responsibility for project management and required little supervision to get the project kicked off. He undertook a significant amount of research to ensure he understood the device and demonstrated an understanding of good survey methods. He was responsible for drafting the customer survey and all outreach materials to enroll customers in the pilot, as well as visiting customers in their homes to set up the equipment for the study. Both his writing and his customer service skills are excellent. Brent was responsible for setting his own work schedule and allocating time to ensure he met project milestones by the required deadlines. Since the internship was paid by a stipend rather than an hourly rate, it was in Brent's best interest to work effectively and efficiently, and he demonstrated that he is very capable of doing both. His project management skills are very good and he is well-organized. We were so impressed with Brent's work that we brought him back on a temporary assignment to post-inspect our LED streetlight retrofit project."
