The act of building or creating something is exhilarating; building or creating something you can inhabit is both exhilarating and primal. I am constantly endeavoring to acquire construction knowledge and methodologies to make me a better builder.It has taken me from the acquisition of a Masters in Architecture from Tulane University in New Orleans to employment with commercial and residential builders, where I learned and became proficient in cost estimation, client relations, and project sales, to my most recent role as Vice President of Operations for a well-known residential General Contractor, where we executed high-end custom residential construction projects to a discerning clientele. Starting as a secondary estimator, I quickly developed my own position within this burgeoning company, where my success at each assigned duty quickly allowed for additional and varied responsibilities. By the time I was named VP of Operations in 2015, our five member office staff simultaneously managed 5-9 projects with budgets ranging from $150k to $1.3M, and I was responsible for and successfully managed the following:- All in-house architectural design & drafting- All estimating of prospective projects, including acquisition of subcontractor pricing- Presentation of 40-80% of every project proposal to clients.- Adoption, implementation, & instruction of project management software- Creation, development, & implementation of Standard Operating Procedures- Client relations (as primary point of contact)- All scope change pricing & approvals- Manpower scheduling & tracking- Lead at all client & team progress meetings- Project Proposal Development & Improvement- Client Invoicing- Management & oversight of the office production team (a scheduler, purchaser, and financial manager)I am now seeking my next role, where I intend to contribute all of my acquired skills and knowledge to increase the success and profitability of my new company.
