Rapps Pharmacy provided the unique opportunity of being able to work in both a retail store and a pharmacy geared towards long-term care. I am able to perform many of the familiar duties of a pharmacist at the retail store, such as performing drug utilization reviews when dispensing medications, providing counseling when necessary, and administering immunizations.The long-term care pharmacy offers a different challenge as the patient population is generally older and on multiple medications. I am able to use a more clinical mindset as ensuring patients receive their drug regimens on time and preventing any drug interactions become core responsibilities. I make sure all medication packaging is complete with a patient's monthly regimen and is accurately filled while also making sure no patient therapy management is interrupted in any way.

I always prioritized patient safety while performing my duties as a technician, including, but not limited to, accurately processing, filling, and labeling prescriptions and vaccinations. I also optimized patient care through my discussions with physicians, nurses and insurers.I have also been responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the pharmacy inventory, including up-to-date counts and removing expired medications. It keeps patient safety at the forefront while simultaneously saving the pharmacy thousands of dollars. As a recent pharmacy graduate, I have been able to provide medical education and over-the-counter medication recommendations and execute pharmacy transfers under the supervision of the pharmacist. Since I am also approved to provide immunizations, giving vaccines to patients has become an integral part of my workflow.
