Leading global Executive and Internal communications at Emarsys, an SAP company. I work across the business and directly with the CEO and C-suite to drive employee engagement and alignment with business direction and corporate goals by developing and executing measurable and impactful communications strategies to inform and inspire a global workforce. My purview includes serving as communications advisor to the executive team, overseeing change management communications for enterprise projects and other transformational efforts, managing global town halls and other employee meetings, managing the employee communications editorial calendar, and developing a variety of materials including presentations, talking points, Q&As, email content, blog posts, video scripts, and social media posts.In this role I was promoted from Director of Communications to Senior Director Executive and Corporate Communications.

Managed internal communications and supported external communications for Fortune 500 CIO and her leadership team. I built materials to support critical decisions and narrative development surrounding the organization’s performance, reputation, and internal/external position including executive-level presentations and talking points for internal and external speaking engagements, board meetings, and All Hands staff meetings, overarching narratives, Q&As, email content, blog posts, video scripts, social media posts, and briefing memos. In this role I worked directly with C-level leadership and the board, and collaborated heavily with stakeholders including Media Relations, HR, and more.

Flexed my communications skills in new areas 1) in IT 2) at an Enterprise company and 3) in a change-management focused communications role. From analysis to training to internal and incident communication, my team did a little of everything. Primarily, we worked to build and scale a team to support global employees through change, including enterprise-wide technical implementations, and minimize impact so people could focus on doing their jobs. While in this role, I was promoted from Communications Lead to Internal Communications Manager and earned my Salesforce Certified Marketing Cloud Email Specialist certification.

Side-gig as a resident storyteller and bylined writer for a local publication.

Led Marketing (including in-house team and vendor relationships) for the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), which reached more than 50 million readers a month. My non-scientific background helped me translate technical material into easier-to-understand content, a skill I use to this day in Tech/SaaS. I managed strategic communications, market research, subscription management, and served as advisor to the executive team.

Graduated into the Great Recession, took the most stable job I could find (which was in a suburb of a small Indiana town, not quite the big city glamour I hoped for) and promptly fell in loved with traveling and corporate communications. I learned the ins and outs of business in a government-regulated industry and worked with the C-Suite to coordinate internal and external communications and marketing plans across multiple business units, service lines, and nationwide locations. I learned what a trade show was, and then took point on managing all of our event participation, including trade shows and multiple annual customer events. I also served as our company Director of Emergency Response, dropping everything to project manage storm response for major national crisis incidents like winter ice storms and Hurricanes Irene and Sandy, from 2010-2013.

It was the 2008 Presidential Primary season—politics were exciting, students were engaged, and I was turning out press releases at an alarming clip in the basement of the Statehouse with the Indiana House Democrat Media Office.

When you think of a State Fair, you may think of fried food and livestock, but I think of the marketing and PR machine that fuels the fun. I learned about event management (taking point on the annual “A Taste of Indiana Agriculture” Wine Reception, World’s Largest Drive-Thru Breakfast, and Indiana State Fair Open Car Show). I wrote many, many news releases, which we still assembled into printed, physical media kits, and tracked press coverage (shout out to my first thrilling experience seeing coverage in a Tier One publication when the New York Times covered the Indiana State Fair that year). I also learned that all publications, even the Indiana State Fair Band Day program, need funding and I increased program advertising revenue by 19 percent from the previous year.

While my title was "Administrative Intern" what I really did was learn how to work in a professional office setting (and thanks to this job, and being an elder millennial, I am still not afraid of an old-fashioned phone call). I dipped my toe into project management and wrote my first corporate newsletter—my destiny in Corporate Communications was sealed even if I didn't know it yet.
