The Goldenson Center at UCONN, publishes an annual National Retirement Sustainability Index (NRSI), which is a measure of the population's preparedness for retirement. It uses economic factors such as projected assets and liabilities, but unlike most other retirement indices, it also takes into account non-economic factors such as financial preparedness, job satisfaction, health status, and adaptability. As a consultant, I was responsible for questioning/validating assumptions and recommending analytic method. Relevant topics include statistics, macroeconomics, and actuarial math.

A group of students at Saint Cloud State University, monitored by Dr. David Robinson and Dr. Hui Xu, analyze data for the Stearns County Criminal Justice System. Data analysis topics include predicting the length of time an inmate will spend in jail, forecasting the jail population, and predicting the probability of a probation client successfully completing his/her probation program. The students are required to give oral presentations every semester to the Stearns County Criminal Justice Coordination Committee and other groups of county employees. Upon graduation, a student is required to give a written presentation of his/her work to the professors monitoring the group as well as relevant county officials. Relevant skills includes: predictive modeling, time series, survival functions, decision trees, SAS, technical writing, and oral presentations.
