In light of the nation’s behavioral health crisis, it’s essential to have professionals in the field who prioritize their own mental wellbeing, are comfortable handling emergencies, and are willing to lead advocacy efforts for themselves and their clients. As a Behavioral Health Technician, I enjoyed experiences modeling coping skills to clients, promoting the family and school staff to make client-centered choices, and handling active crisis situations. In my role as a Psychiatric Rehabilitation Assistant, I showed my competence in leadership roles as I taught life skills to individuals with serious mental illness(es), and conducted training sessions to inform my peers about particular psychiatric diagnoses as well as how to appropriately respond to clients with these conditions. Through my position as the Founder of Empathy & Energy Exchange, I’ve had the pleasure of identifying problem areas within a specific population, creating reformative yet digestible potential solutions to these issues, and collaborating with members within the particular community to implement service programs.
