Now retired from a full time career in the ski industry, Bob has recently re-engaged with Selkirk College using experiences and knowledge gained over a 50 year career, to update the Selkirk College text book (Passenger Ropeways and Passenger Conveyors) and to lead the development of online Z98 code training courses. Early on in his career Bob worked in all facets of operations, maintenance & management at ski resorts in Alberta and BC. He was one of the first 2 tradespersons to graduate from the first government registered apprenticeship program in a BC ski resort. Bob was a passenger ropeway inspector for the BC Government for 22 years and did 7 years as director of risk management for Gougeon Insurance, providing risk mitigation for ski resorts across Canada. Immediately prior to retirement Bob spent 6 years at Marmot Basin in Jasper AB, as the VP of Maintenance & Operations. Bob has long been a believer in the importance of industry driven training for ski resort personnel and the value of sharing information. He has co-authored and instructed training courses for ski resort operations and maintenance personnel across Canada. He currently sits on the CSA Z98 Passenger Ropeway and Passenger Conveyor technical committee as an associate member and is past chairman of the Alberta Passenger Ropeway Technical Council. In 2021 Bob was the recipient of the Jim Marshall Leadership Award, presented by the Canada West Ski Areas Association.Bob continues to work with Selkirk College as instructor and administrator of the online lift courses (151, 152 & 153) and with the CWSAA , providing assistance and planning for operations and maintenance training seminars.
