Oversaw and managed the horizontal drilling in the Haynesville and Cotton Valley areas in the East Texas and North Louisiana, the Wolfcamp play in West Texas, the Eagle Ford play in South Texas, and conventional drilling (10,500’ to 15,600’) in the Altamont area of Utah. Responsible for the engineering, cost control, safety concerns, and the day-to-day operations on the rigs in these different drilling areas with 4 drilling engineers, 2 superintendents, and 40 drilling supervisors. Mentor younger engineers on drilling and completions operations and engineering, plus the training of junior engineers in drilling / completion engineering techniques (3 new engineers every 5 months). Improved the drilling days in the Wolfcamp-Eagle Ford wells from 20 days down to 6 days, thru simplification and repeatability of well design in all areas. Have been able to lower the drilling cost from $335/ft. to $80/ft. by reducing drilling days on the horizontal wells. Responsible for all drilling engineering functions. Managed the drilling operations for the company's extensive development program in the geo-pressured Wilcox in South Texas. This included all drilling engineering functions, as well as management of the company's drilling services division, which owned seven rigs and employed 156 people. The seven rigs ran continuously in order to maintain a minimum goal of 75 wells per year. As many as eighteen additional third party rigs were contracted from time to time to accelerate this schedule. Management of the drilling operations included strict operating cost controls.
