In 2010 the MedStar Health Board approved the MedStar 2020 Strategic Plan to transform the System from a hospital focused system to a distributed care delivery model of care that would bring the system’s services closer to where the residents of Maryland, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia lived and worked.MedStar Ambulatory Services, a division of MedStar Health, was created as the vehicle to build out the ambulatory care infrastructure necessary to support the System’s strategy. As the first President of MedStar Ambulatory Services:- I was responsible for creating the operational plan and identifying the resources required to execute on the Plan;- I oversaw the location, design, and operationalizing of 7 fully integrated, multi-specialty ambulatory care centers located across the service area. I worked with our local hospital executives to recruit the physician staffing necessary to support these new care sites;- Specifically, I led the development of 3 free-standing ASCs and investments in 3 physician owned GI Centers. 2 of the ASCs were joint ventures with physicians and a national surgery center developer. I served as the lead Executive on each of the Boards;- I facilitated negotiations with a national operator to establish a JV to oversee the development of a outpatient radiology network;- I had responsibility to develop and operate a 12 site urgent care network. In 2020, I lead the team that acquired a local urgent care company to expand our network to 30 locations throughout the service area; - In FY 2021, MedStar Ambulatory Services facilities and services treated over 325,000 patients generating net revenues of over $ 200M.
