The GTX Head of RTS and the RTS-team is responsible for the non- functional user experience of the platform. This includes non-functional cross-cutting aspects such as availability, stability, robustness, reliability, safety, security and the non-functional end-user-experience (download time, login time, etc.). Latency and scalability targets are explicitly the responsibility of the CTS teams working on latency critical vertical slices. Has to work close together with other departments like QA, CISO, Sysadmin, technical support, business support, 360T projects, account managers, sales and the “change the system” teams.

Monitoring is vital. GTX is monitored across multiple datacenters and domains in a constant state of flux, if not day to day then certainly month to month. I have written many custom plugins and techniques that relate both to systems maintenance in general and the GTX application specifically.Backup and restore: I long ago crafted custom tar backup scripts that are still going strong today; the new BTRFS copy-on-write technology is now used in an additional novel backup strategy that effectively provides a time-machine to recover (or simply to view) configuration files from any point in the past..Timekeeping. This is another are where the Forexster experience shines through as PTP/NTP timekeeping is a battle that I fought and won 10 years ago. Large organizations struggle with this constantly and it requires a deep understanding of computer timekeeping to get it right in a cost-effective way.I have contributed several webapps to the GTX operations teams, each of which is an elegant marriage of system tools with effective user interface. Another important application I developed entirely my myself in-house for GTX is the AWS/Glacier batch upload process, which handles large unwieldy data files that require compression, encryption, and shipping to on-site and off-site repositories, and archiving the JSON descriptors for later indexing and retrieval.My DBA experience starts with Oracle in production for Forexster, but recent work is with PostgreSQL for the GTX installation, setting up WAL archiving for point-in-time-recovery, WAL shipping for hot-standby and disaster recovery, nightly backups, and monitoring. I also manage MySQL and PostgreSQL databases backing essential tools such as Jira, Confluence and TeamCity.

The Forexster project began in 2001 with extensive systems plannin, purchasing and installation efforts, culminating in a robust datacenter footprint with production and Q.A. server cluster, fibre-channel disk array, two-factor authentication, and fully HA-paired network stack with internet and extranet connectivity (even a POTS dial-in backup modem). My development of out-of-band management solutions and use of “enterprise” Linux were 10 years ahead of where the entire industry ultimately moved. This is the cabinet that sold Forexster to Bear Stearns, JPM, and eventually earned us a long-term contract with GAIN Capital for the GTX application.For SNS in-house, Install & maintain OpenStack cloud platform, test beds experimenting with LDAP and DNS and NIC bonding and teaming, offsite subversion repository and spam magnet.My VOIP network (Asterisk software, Aastra phones, PoE switches, wholesale SIP/DID providers) saved SNS hundreds if not thousands a month in telecommunications costs while consulting for Gain and others.

The Forexster project (http://forexster.com) began in Cary, NC. The crash of Bear Stearns threw Forexster for a loop, but by word-of-mouth among the desk traders, a place for Forexster was reserved at the table of JP Morgan. From there a long-term-project (10 yrs) with Gain Capital Holdings of Bedminster, NJ built little Forexster into the GTX Platform, with deep liquidity in all FX markets, a solid back-office structure, and a heart of Forexster.On 1 July 2018, 360T/Deutsche Börse stepped in and placed a valuation of $100 Million for the GTX property by purchasing it lock, stock and barrel.

First project, in White Plains, NY, was to install BMC Patrol for a hedge fund operating there. Good success and a happy client. Was at Discovery.com at a time they were purchased so a project there went nowhere.
