I provide legal services to The Keane Insurance Group, one of the leading national brokers of professional liability insurance to the medical community. As President of KIG Healthcare Solutions, Inc., I provided leadership and support to a skilled team of IT, sales, and software professionals. Until its acquisition by GBS in 2011, KIG offered electronic health records and medical practice management software to physicians and their practices.

Evaluate and manage a significant book of high exposure medical malpractice claims and suits across the country, including reserve, settlement, and trial recommendations. Lead and manage a team of claim professionals and outside counsel. Maintain client relations.

General Counsel/Vice-PresidentServed on 5-person executive management team and as primary liaison for firm’s largest client (representing 60% of total revenue), a risk-retention group that insures nursing homes and long-term care facilities. Direct staff of 11 claims professionals and 1 administrative assistant while overseeing 600 open claims with $40M in reserves. Manage outside counsel, including lawyers and law firms in 30 states. Implement written defense counsel guidelines. Approve all recommendations for reserves, settlements, and defense strategies.• Spearheaded complete revision of internal policy and procedure manual and implemented centralized claim processing procedure in first 6 months of tenure.• Forged mutually productive relationship with off-site claim adjusters, instituting monthly conference calls and roundtable discussions, while simultaneously introducing higher level of supervision.• Conducted quantitative and qualitative research to measure staffing needs.

Co-founded and built firm consisting of 10 lawyers and 10 adminstrative staff. Recruited, trained, and supervised lawyers, paralegals, and clerical staff. Served as litigator in urban, suburban, and rural venues, handling appeals at all appellate levels.• Overturned substantial medical malpractice verdict on appeal in Cline v. William H. Friedman & Assoc., 882 S.W.2d 754, 754 (Mo. App. 1994)• Successfully defended claims in several high-profile obstetrical cases including Kluba v. Four Rivers OB-GYN, et al, Case # 2198CC-01273 (St. Louis County Circuit Court) and Bunch v. Perinatal Services, Inc., Case #22942-01032 (St. Louis City Circuit Court).
