About Robert Packer

From investment banking and related experience, primarily at Morgan Stanley, I have deep expertise in multiple industries heavily affected by physical and transition climate risks and energy transition regulation. While in M&A, I advised clients on a wide range of industry-first transactions that foresaw the restructuring of the electric power industry. Next I became the senior manager of a cogeneration project developer. Returning to Morgan Stanley in distressed debt research, I led the first coverage of US independent power developers and US utility bankruptcies. I also led research for project financing firsts for power and infrastructure in China and Latin America. Following Morgan Stanley’s entry into bank lending, I ran counterparty credit risk management for the commodity trading divisions complex derivative and physical transactions and led the start of direct lending. I built best-in-class credit risk, fixed income research, and project teams. Complex project management included post-crisis regulatory project leadership at Morgan Stanley, regulatory consulting for Promontory/IBM, bankruptcy advisory, and electric power plant development. Sectors covered across counterparty credit risk management, debt and distressed research, and M&A advisory include: - Electric power including wind and solar renewables- Regulated power, gas and water utilities- Global infrastructure and project finance- Oil & gas upstream, refiners, midstream, oilfield services, and integrated energy- Metals & mining- Commodities traders- Airlines and rail transportation- Real estate and homebuilders- Electric equipment manufacturers- Engineering services- Waste management.I also have GARP certification in Sustainability and Climate Risk as well as DOD training related to Controlled Unclassified Information and NIST/CMMC.Beyond my professional endeavors, I am committed to giving back to the community. I serve on the board of The Center for Family Support Inc., supporting New Yorkers with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Additionally, I have worked to address homelessness on the board of Broadway Housing Communities and have been a career coach for students at Northwestern and MIT. My guest lectures on electric power and M&A at the NYU School of Professional Studies reflect my commitment to education and knowledge sharing.
