Sr. Regional Business LeaderFpl Energy 1999 - 2007Yarmouth, MaineUtility deregulation required Central Maine Power to divest its entire generation fleet, and I joined a small transition team at FPL Energy to facilitate their $846m acquisition of those assets, consisting of 36 hydro dams, six water storage reservoirs and three fossil fired plants. Once the transition was complete I was hand-selected by the SVP to participate in the strategic integration and operation of the newly acquired 105 person hydro fleet. I oversaw a 12-person team handling Business, Environmental, Fisheries, Recreation and Public Relations, and was resposible for all associated budgeting ($15m/yr O&M, $5m/yr Capital), project planning, purchasing, procurement, and inventory functions. Hydro operations were new to FPLE, and I developed and successfully implemented new policies, procedures and databases to align the Hydro fleet with corporate expectations. I was promoted and my oversight expanded to include the three Maine fossil plants as well, with a larger overall budget ($22m/yr O&M, $8m Capital). My most challenging new responsibility was successfully implementing then regularly testing Sarbanes-Oxley purchasing, procurement, inventory and accrual standards throughout the entire Maine fleet. I was also asked to conduct Sarbanes audits and process reviews at other FPLE sites nationwide. Key skills: High level leadership and management, operational metrics and reporting, regulatory oversight and compliance, employee/bargaining unit relations and motivation, sharp business functions including auditing, project management, employee training, use of Six Sigma tools, and a strong culture for process development and measurement. -
