I edited and shaped stories for CNN Business, particularly on consumer-related topics.

I co-taught Reporting and Writing 1, a required class for all incoming students, where they are sent out to report on actual events and write them up as news stories on tight deadlines. They also are taught how interview subjects, how to read documents and find information from them.

Created, edited and shepherded stories for the University's news website and social media channels, which are aimed at faculty/staff/alums/donors and the general public. Coordinated accompanying videos as well as other story-telling methods. Edited, copy-edited and proofread news releases and other communications released by the office.

Responsible for editing, coordinating and packaging news content for Columbia University's news website and its newspaper for faculty and staff, The Record.

Taught courses in Reporting, Writing and Reporting, Deadline Writing and Columbia News Service, a feature writing seminar. Worked with students of all skill levels, in class and one-on-one, on how to write clearly and concisely with impact and how to improve their output.

As part of a then-existing joint venture, I was stationed in the CNBC newsroom with their producers and correspondents, where I pitched WSJ stories and content to specific CNBC shows and wrote questions and summaries for their anchors/reporters. I prepped WSJ reporters and columnists before they went on air on how to best present themselves, and worked them afterwards if improvements were needed.

From the New York bureau, I covered the mutual funds industry, regularly breaking news, as well as writing trend and feature stories for the daily paper and special monthly and quarterly sections. Wrote extensively on the troubles facing mutual funds in the aftermath of 9/11 and the 2002 stock market downturn. Wrote a weekly column on legal insider trading and also covered the variable annuity industry. In Houston, I covered the airline and travel industry and wrote stories for all sections from Page One to Money & Investing. Extensively covered airline economic woes, accurately predicting the industry’s 1990 downturn and later resurgence. Wrote numerous features about travel as well as with features and profiles that ran on Page One and in the Marketplace section.

Covered virtually every major story in Louisiana, including the building and financial failure of the 1984 Louisiana World Exposition; two racketeering trials of then Gov. Edwin Edwards (he was acquitted in both but convicted in a third trial a dozen years later). Went on the road in 1987 and 1988 to cover the presidential campaign and then covered the Republican National Convention, which was held in New Orleans in 1988
