Safety Awareness For Everyone (SAFE) is an abuse prevention program. The curriculum focuses on valuable life-skills such as assertiveness and self-protection. Pre-K/Kindergarten Curriculum: 5-7 years of age: "Talking to Hermenabelle about the Touching Rule" With the help of my puppet Hermenabelle we learn "No one should touch your private parts except to keep you clean and healthy". Private parts are described as "the parts of your body that are covered by bathing suits".Statements from evaluations:"The students really seemed to enjoy and learn from the program."-Teacher"I felt very comfortable with the way the information was presented to my child. I would recommend it gladly."-Parent2nd / 3rd Grade 8-9 years of age: Hermenabelle is back. We talk about the body’s alert system and how smart the body is at telling us what it needs. We learn the “Say no, run and tell plan” and then use it in very age appropriate situations. Statements from evaluations:"Students are definitely given a plan of action to protect themselves."-Teacher"I learned about the 3 touches and what to do if someone gives me an uh-oh feeling."-StudentFourth / Fifth Grades ages 9 to 10 : The participants are introduced to 4 ideas (Assertiveness, Feelings, Tricks and Power). We watch a video produced by the Committee for Children called “Yes, you can say No”. I then lead a discussion which invokes laughter, problem solving, recognition of assertiveness, safety and empowerment. The fifth grade program involves watching a video from the Committee For Children Personal Decision Safety Decision Making curricula entitled, "Yes, You Can Say No." Statements from evaluations:"After [the presenter] left, the students were positive and receptive in a discussion."-Teacher"Wonderful!
