• Responsible for the enhancement and maintenance of a large commission system. Automated many functions to make the application easier to maintain and more end-user friendly. Migrated the system from a Honeywell BULL machine to the HP3000.• Developed and maintained a mainframe report archive and distribution system, which distributed several thousand reports to printers and email daily. The emailed reports are distributed in both text and PDF format.• Designed, coded, and implemented a PDF generation utility.• Successfully moved a large COBOL inventory forecasting application from a Honeywell BULL environment to the HP3000. This effort saved the department hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.• Utilities created for the HP 3000: File compare utility having a character, hex, or formatted display. File summarize utility. File build utility. Utility to convert comma-delimited files to fixed-format flat files. Work area table sort routine for COBOL programs. PDF file creator. Report distribution system having hardcopy print (Simplex/Duplex/Two-Up/Quad), email (PDF/text), and FTP distribution. Pre-compile routine to convert Report-Writer COBOL code to standard COBOL. Report collator.• Was the technical Y2K team leader. Created a schedule simulator, and automated file compare process, and a database checkpoint/restore process. The effort achieved the customer’s goal. Several Reflection Basic and MPE routines were developed in support of the project. The file compare utility was used in both the testing and production environments. Worked closely with the Help Desk in the analysis and resolution of problems.

• Led the effort in designing a mainframe DB2 database, using the Bachman modeling tools, for a client/server locomotive maintenance project called LARRS. The database effort was very successful, having received resounding customer support.• In support of the merger between the Southern Pacific and Union Pacific railroads, set up and administered a Lotus Notes domain for communicating with the Union Pacific.• Rewrote a DB2 database load procedure, reducing the daily CPU time of the load from several hours to less than fifteen minutes.• Worked extensively on and designed both online and batch rail transportation functions, including intermodal applications.• Developed detailed flowcharts and coded in macro-based IBM Assembler 360. Debugging and dump reading at the assembler level.• Developed and designed DB2 databases and acquired expertise in DB2 tuning, etc.• Extensive system design and development using COBOL.• Set up and maintained Lotus Notes domain for email and communication with other major railroads.• Developed EDI technology, including an online table-based EDI translation procedure, which was used to exchange data with the Association of American Railroads (AAR) as well as with other major railroads. This system handled data in the TDCC (X.12) format used by the railroads.• Developed an online IMS system which recorded the demurrage activity of railroad cars.
