I worked at Oracle in 1994-1999 and then again from 2012 to the present.• Was invited in 2012 to re-join Oracle's advanced development Lab (after a long stint outside of Oracle) to architect what would become Oracle HeatWave: new scaled-out highly available in-memory columnar query execution engine for big data analytics (OLAP).• After HeatWave moved to Oracle Database Kernel group to architect and develop cloud scale distributed highly available strongly consistent in-memory transaction processing engine.• During earlier years at Oracle (1994-1999) led project on distributed cache coherency technology for Oracle data base kernel: CR Server and Cache Fusion. One of the patents (co-authored with R. Bamford) on CR Server was awarded ‘A Special Contribution to the Success of Oracle Corp’. This new technology provided a scalable, recoverable, write-back access to shared data. It became one of the fundamental blocks for Oracle RAC. The project dealt with the intricacies of Oracle RDBMS internals: row and block level locking, distributed lock management, consistent read, cache coherency mechanisms, recovery and high availability, versioning. As a result of the project, the performance overhead of distributed cache coherency in Oracle Parallel Server was reduced by a factor of 10.

Led efforts to apply Machine Learning technologies to IoT. Architected and helped to develop insight generation engine that runs AI on data streams generated by sensor networks. The engine provides anomaly detection, data quality controls, 'energy forensics' and modeling services. C3.ai went public in 2021 on $10 Billion valuation.

Lead algorithmic and development efforts in areas of adaptive resource management, database multi-tenancy, optimized quality of service, scalability, remote replication and dependency management for distributed systems. Authored technology for optimized resource allocation for database virtualization and consolidation which is one of the company’s key IP patents.

Lead advanced technology team in building advertising applications and Yahoo!’s industry-leading click protection platform. Architected and developed click fraud protection software solution as a core component of Panama (Yahoo!’s flagship Advertising Platform). This system processes several million events per hour and accounts for several billion dollars per year. Grew engineering team from 2 to 15 in one year. Solution is based on advanced algorithmic technologies (statistical inference, time series analysis, data mining,machine learning) applied to terabytes of data. Just a year after formation, the group was awarded a ‘dream team’ award. I was twice nominated for the Yahoo! Superstar award. By synthesizing a large amount of technical, scientific and business information, devised a winning strategy and created an innovative product that launched Yahoo! into a leadership position in the click fraud arena.

Starting as an architect, provided technical vision and was then tasked with creating a department to deliver loadable frameworks for data services for mobile devices. In 18 months built up, from scratch, a group of 55 engineers working on software security for distributed systems, trusted computing, digital rights management, data synchronization, remote device management, application provisioning, over the air deployment and repair of software, and dependency management. The work is acknowledged as highly innovative, and resulted in 20 patents filed by my department in one year. Several members of the department (including myself) were rewarded as the most prolific inventors of 2004. The work involved multiple interactions with major wireless operators and close work with the wireless and Java standards bodies. The virtual team comprised of groups working in California, Illinois, China, Russia and India. The department has a reputation for on-time, high-quality deliverables.

As a member of Siebel’s architecture board, was responsible for design and development of a comprehensive Security Framework Architecture. The architecture provides authentication capabilities, fine grain access control (authorization) to application server resources, privilege based access for individual data records in the database, confidentiality (encryption), auditing capabilities, and digital signatures management. The framework is based on J2EE, and Web Services security standards.

Responsible for overall architecture of a J2EE based platform for Enterprise Business Process Management (Appmail). Appmails are J2EE applications built on top of Application Servers leveraging various J2EE technologies: EJB, JMS, JDBC, JTA, JSP, Servlets and XML. Specifically led three main areas: distributed scalable platforms; event handling system and rules engine. Grew a team from 0 of 8, performed successfully under stressful and aggressive schedules.

Architected throughput scalability for Webvan’s order fulfillment system (OFS) using replication techniques. Was one of the main contributors to ramping up the Order Fulfillment System throughput by 700% over 6 months. Designed and implemented specialized resource allocation features (inventory replication, algorithms for route scheduling and warehouse queue optimization).

Invented and implemented algorithms for Video on Demand Server Scheduling using patented caching and disk allocation schemes for video streaming. Designed and developed a tool for capacity planning and configuration optimization of IBM’s high-end storage products. The tool contained performance models of log-structured disk arrays, RAID systems, algorithms for garbage collection, and data compression techniques. While working in IBM Research Lab, Haifa, Israel,led development of delivery optimization package. The package was deployed in a large industrial company saving about 20% of transportation costs by concurrent optimization of routing, scheduling and vehicle packing. The package was based on large scale linear and integer programming for network flow optimization, and combinatorial optimization. Developed mathematical models of risk analysis (Markovitz, factor analysis, dynamic programming etc.)
