Post-Doctoral Researcher

My research focused on the search for new, long-lived particles at the LHC. A wide range of proposed models of physics beyond the Standard Model propose new particles with long lifetimes, and such signatures are easily missed without dedicated reconstruction techniques and experiment designs.* The CMS Experiment- Led researchers in two searches for disappearing tracks- Developed a neural network classifier based on the Deep Sets architecture, identifying electrons and muons which fail existing reconstruction methods- Began development of a GUI-based software program to document construction and quality control efforts in the CMS silicon pixel tracker upgrade* The milliQan Experiment- Constructed and commissioned a small-scale prototype detector to search for particles with a small fraction of the electron's charge- Developed a multi-threaded C++ data acquisition program synthesizing multiple devices and data streams, operating autonomously for over three years in a physically inaccessible site- Led researchers in analyzing the prototype's collected data* HPC- Comissioned and administrated a 340-core Rocks Linux cluster, a part of the Open Science Grid and Tier 3 facility for CMS computing

Nov 2015 - Jun 2021

Graduate Research Assistant

Charlottesville, Virginia Area

My research focused on searches for new physics at the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), in particular Supersymmetry in events with photons and missing energy signatures. Observation of such a signature would be a powerful indication of physics beyond the Standard Model, and would provide insights into the fundamental symmetries of Nature.* Research Assistant- Designed and published multiple searches for Supersymmetry- Constructed and tested a prototype calorimeter module- Simulated radiation damage of calorimeters- Designed and constructed a test stand for photodetector characterizations in high magnetic fields* Teaching Assistant- Lectured and designed weekly assessments in recitation sessions (General Physics I and II; for pre-med, engineering)- Graded homework assignments (QM I, graduate-level E&M I and II, QFT I)
