I have attended Clarkson University since 2017, majoring in Aeronautical Engineering and minoring in Materials Engineering. Throughout my time at Clarkson, I have joined the Design Build Fly SPEED team, been on the President’s List nearly each semester, and joined the Sigma Gamma Tau national honors’ society for Aerospace Engineers. I worked at Whelen Engineering for four summers between semesters in high school as well as university. I worked in three different departments through four summers. I first worked in final assembly, building lightbars and light assemblies on an assembly line. I was recommended to the Quality Control department by my department lead and worked in QC the following summer. During this summer, I checked the functionality of lights before they were added to light assemblies. I also checked the quality of the population of printed circuit boards (PCBs) against Engineering Drawings to ensure they were populated correctly. The following summer I had the opportunity to work with the process of populating the PCBs, running Surface Mount Technology (SMT) machines that placed small electrical components onto PCBs. I ran an entire SMT line, from application of solder to full-scale testing of the completely populated PCBs, by myself, increasing production by almost 10 jobs per day. I was recruited back to the QC department for my last summer and continued to work closely with engineering to ensure the quality of our products was perfect. More recently, I joined Professor Pat Piperni here at Clarkson in his research of optimizing airfoil shapes to generate the maximum possible L/D in viscous flow using both gradient-based and non-gradient-based optimizers in Dassault iSight. I also worked with another student to create a plugin to iSight so we could integrate SNOPT into the optimization our airfoils.
