With his teams, Brad built them up as individuals and challenged them as a group to “put points on the board”. His passion clearly shone through and his people felt cared for. He earned their respect and loyalty - something I heard time and again from his team members. When connecting with stakeholders, Brad focused first on understanding their pain. How can he and his crew help? Where had they not lived up to expectations? Once they felt truly listened to he deepened his personal connection building trust he could lean on when times got tough. He is there as a person any time you need him, but he doesn't "manage people". He does what great leaders do. He gives you the task, goal, tools, freedom, and support to get it done. This is not to say he isn't into people. He is friendly, funny, and very much cares about his people. His rather unique skill is keeping the personal relationships personal and completely separate from managing the goals. When there is an issue anywhere in our area of responsibility he jumps in front of it. He will get up to speed, ask informational question, offer suggestions, etc. Then he will stay out of your way while he manages the communication. I have never, not once seen Brad call someone out for a "bug". He's been around long enough to know they WILL happen. There is some scenario that "could never happen", but does. I have worked at several places where the first priority when something goes wrong is to find a person to blame. In Brad's world, it's WHAT happened and HOW can WE fix it. Then he will jump in creating test situations, validating data, etc., anything to HELP."
