Over the past 31 years, Brininstool + Lynch’s founding Principal Brad Lynch has guided designs ranging from high-rise mixed-use towers and corporate headquarters, to film facilities and museums, through private residences and master plans. His vast design experience is manifest in buildings and interiors whose beauty is a function of their elegant restraint. Through refined material palettes, thoughtful details, and the careful play of light and space he has continually produced works of rich experience and quiet grace.After interning at architecture firms in Chicago, Lynch co-founded Brininstool + Lynch with David Brininstool in 1989, and Lynch’s design work has helped the firm garner over fifty major design awards. His work has been featured in over twenty books on architecture, and over one hundred articles in design periodicals and general publications, including cover stories in Azure and Metropolis magazines.Beyond commercial and private projects, Brad has been actively involved in civic and community initiatives related to design. This includes creating a sustainable planning initiative for the Atlantic rainforest city of Paranapiacaba in Brazil; designs for a sustainable community development with Global Green and Brad Pitt in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina; designing a prototype building for the Near Westside Initiative in Syracuse, New York; the planning of a new transportation hub and masterplan for Chinatown in Chicago, and the planning for the West Side Corridor in Chicago.Brad has been a lecturer, critic, and faculty member at more than 20 universities including Syracuse University’s School of Architecture and the Illinois Institute of Technology College of Architecture, and the School of Architecture at Taliesin. In addition, he has given public lectures for the Architectural League of New York, the Chicago Architecture Center, the Hallmark Creative Lecture Series, and the Rice Design Alliance. He is a National Peer Professional for the U.S. General Services Administration Design Excellence program, a member of the Toronto Sister Cities committee, as well as a member of the Economic Club of Chicago.While completing his studies in Art, Art History and Engineering at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, Brad began his career in architecture as a construction and project manager restoring Frank Lloyd Wright and Prairie School buildings in the early 1980’s. This work included the restoration of the first Herbert Jacobs House, Wright’s first Usonian house and now a National Landmark, and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
