Journalism, public service, leadership development, publishing — the consistent core value of my career is my desire to help create a more compassionate and just world. I recognize there is no one solution for such a wide range of challenges, but I enjoy the work of discovering and implementing the best solutions, adjusting for change, and building on successes.Since 2011, I have led Chalice Media Group through its transformation from a resource provider primarily serving churches to become a publishing house that urges readers to act on the pressing social justice issues facing our world. Chalice has focused our DEI efforts to recruit an author base that reflects American society, especially authors of color and women. Chalice has been recognized in the publishing industry for our visionary anti-racism books that were already available during the racial protests of 2020 and for our genre-leading work on LGBTQIA+ inclusion. We have made these changes in an extremely competitive and rapidly changing publishing market by staying laser-focused on our mission and using every available resource to its full potential. So many books are great reads, but we’re left asking, “what do I do now?” Chalice works to make the stories embodied in our books to be accessible, useful and compelling. I also have a passion for writing and storytelling. My original vocation was journalism, and I was honored to receive several awards for my work and am grateful for the foundation journalism provided for my career. I am also the coauthor of two books connecting America’s national parks and spiritual values, and my MFA project at the University of Missouri-St. Louis is a novel about the second American expedition to travel up the Missouri River to the Pacific and back.
