I Started at Cray in the Network Testing group when Cray was attempting to get an NCSC B1 security rating for their operating system. For this task, I wrote test design specifications and automated tests that verified the MLS capabilities of the operating system. The B1 rating was achieved. Moved into the OS/IO test group in 1995 and mainly focused on file system feature testing. This work involved taking a design document for a new feature and writing a test plan. The test plans were reviewed by other testers and the developers working on the feature. Designing and coding of automated tests were then written to uncover problems before they were seen by our customers. Bugs were filed for any problems found while testing features or system testing of the whole machine. Some of the activities included:*Wrote tests and tools to stress the file system which also verified data integrity while the system was under a heavy load.*Performance testing - ran I/O benchmarks to measure the performance of the file system and verified the performance scaled up when more processors or servers were used. Also verified the performance didn’t degrade between software releases.*Some of the larger features tested: file system quotas, server failover, server quiesce, client-side caching.*Datawarp - Tested Cray’s latest storage model where direct attached SSDs are dynamically allocated on a per job basis, to provide more cost effective fast storage than an external PFS.*Device qualification for fibre-channel RAID disks.-Designed, developed and maintained automated tests. Most of our tests were written in Bash and C, however some were also written in Perl, Python.-Reproduced customer problems. When problems were hit at a customer site, I reproduced them on in-house systems where they could be debugged easier.-File systems worked on include: Lustre, XFS, NFS, DVS, GPFS, NC1FS.
