Managed various projects for an instrument manufacturing startup that was recently acquired by a large conglomerate, helping to transition company from a garage-class startup to a world-class corporate division.- Developed project-management processes and templates to facilitate improved clarity to executives.- Worked towards development a new product final-testing system that would automate all final acoustic testing of production sonar units.- Transitioned Navy-funded R&D proofs-of-concept to commercial products and supported 1st sales.- Facilitated product development and build of the 1st two articles for a mine countermeasure sonar system.- Identified and tracked specifications, requirements, experimental data, verification & validation data.- Performed general product development and sustaining engineering across product line.

Founded, planned, and managed all aspects of a solar technology development startup. Team included 3 full time employees, 6 part time employees, a technology advisory board and a business advisory board. Represented company before investors, the Department of Energy, International Energy Agency, and utilities.Notable Achievements- Managed intellectual property development leading to two patents pending (US and international).- Ultimate responsibility for developing all company products.- Planned and drove development of proof of concept demonstrator.- Secured two investors for first round of investment.- Presented multiple papers on new solar concentrator architecture for CSP and CPV applications.- Developed risk management plan, staffing plan, human resources policies, business plan, financial plan, technical development plan, validation & verification plan, and due-diligence support package.- Designed and built electrical controller, and wrote all control code- Programmed an end-to-end system simulator (including optical raytracer) for LCOE prediction.

Managed the entire optical strategy for the corporation. Contributed to solar PPA wins. Developed hardware, MATLAB software, and all program management documents for optical team. Acted as company expert for optical technology and production of solar mirrors of high slope-error. Contributed to vendor identification and selection for optical components of high-volume products.Notable Achievements- Transitioned optical systems from R&D capability to high-volume manufacturing readiness.- Developed and deployed flux-mapping system for optical validation and verification of solar mirrors.- Designed products for high-volume alignment system for solar dishes.- Simultaneously led night crew of 10 and day crew of 3 on site of 1.5 MW solar plant.- Developed a deployable optical alignment assessment system.- Integrating slope-error measurement technology into high-volume mirror manufacturing line.- Managed all optical alignment and calibration of 1.5 MW solar power plant using dish-Stirling systems.- Chaired ASME conference section in optics for concentrating solar power in May 2010.

Recruited for transfer by Skunkworks management to develop and manage technology R&D programs for the Quantum Enhanced Technology portfolio. Developed technologies, numerical simulation software, systems analyses, error budgets, and parameter optimizations for large, complex systems. Represented Chief Scientist’s Office to other functional business units, and represented Lockheed Martin Corporation to customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and teammates. Developed technical solutions in the optical, mechanical, and micromechanical, power, RF, and aeronautical technical areas.Notable Achievements- Led generation of $75 million whitepaper, resulting in future funding commitment. - Delivered a >$13 million proposal on-time and under-budget, under resource challenges.- Lead technical team as Chief Systems Engineer on a $65 million proposal effort.

Developed innovative sensor systems, optical computers, and mechanical assemblies for spacecraft programs. Contributed to over $200 million in proposals. Conceived and led multiple internal research and development (IRAD or IR&D) programs. Notable Achievements- Uncovered major flaw in optical sensor, mitigating risk of a major orbital catastrophe.- Spearheaded new cooperative research program between Lockheed Martin and Sandia National Labs.- Developed and implemented robotic systems for demonstration of advanced avionics algorithms.- Created an optical measurement laboratory at 1/10th the cost of facilities with similar capabilities.- Unified sensor engineering efforts across government programs to lower development costs by 80%.- Invented a novel 10,000 km, 100Mbps, 10mW, 1 cubic inch optical communications system.- Rehabilitated dormant facilities into a three-degree-of-freedom “floating” robotics laboratory.- Solved critical solar illumination problems, preventing a program from imminent cancellation.- Automated NIST traceable calibration of reflectivity distribution measurement systems.- Optimized collection of solar reflectivity, laser reflectivity and other spectroscopic data.Repeatedly commended by US Government agency customer for operational excellence.

Developed optical, opto-mechanical, and algorithmic subsystems for an optical true-time delay generator for massive RF phased array radars. Applied Fourier optical algorithms to the design of antenna reflectors, leading to publication of a new hybrid antenna design technique. Taught undergraduate electrical engineering and graduate optical laboratory classes.Notable Achievements- Designed bulk-optical system to tune optical time of flight with femto-second accuracy.- Co-invented a hybrid technique for applying Fourier optics and geometrical optics to design beam-shaping antenna reflectors, leading to publication.

Promoted from engineering to junior leadership position. Proposed, managed, and technically led research projects in optical true-time delay generation, “foveated” imaging systems and field deployed ground-truth measurement. Managed optical research laboratory, and consulted on other efforts.Notable Achievements- Proposed, won, managed, and executed an NRO Director’s Innovation Initiative contract.- Led a remote field data collection team to 200% improvement in collected data volume.

Researched atmospheric optics, optical propagation, and beam steering/shaping systems. Designed and built optics research laboratory. Wrote technical papers and presented findings at conferences. Simulated optical systems with MATLAB and Simulink.Notable Achievements- Delivered Wave Front Control Optical Simulation (WFCOS) software package.- Constructed state of the art optical beam shaping and steering test bed.
