I am a maintainer of the open-source signac data management framework, which helps researchers manage and automate workflows on large data sets. The signac framework is a NumFOCUS Affiliated Project, and has over 35,000 downloads and over two dozen code contributors. I oversee releases and deployment, review and merge pull requests, and coordinate project development with a team of contributors from the US, Europe, and Asia. In the Glotzer research group, I study the self-assembly of nanoparticles and crystal formation. Our collaborative team of over 30 researchers uses powerful computer simulations to understand how we can manipulate matter and design materials in new ways. I worked with the Center for the Advancement of Data and Research in Economics (CADRE), helping research economists leverage the high-performance computing (HPC) resources offered by the Federal Reserve Bank. My work optimized code to make Big Data problems tractable, utilized accelerators (including NVIDIA CUDA and Intel Phi), improved software automation, and contributed to cluster hardware and software maintenance.

I co-directed the #OneDayKC innovation workshop, teaching participants about Lean methodology, design thinking, civic technology, sustainable design, and more.The #OneDayKC innovation workshop brings together top-tier students from the Kansas City region to use infrastructure and technology to solve civic challenges. Continuing development in KC through the Cisco Smart City Initiative, KC Streetcar, and Google Fiber opens up opportunities to design sustainable communities, leverage smart devices through the Internet of Everything, and create an efficient, flourishing city for 2025 and beyond. Through the workshop, students develop and validate solutions for Sustainability & Energy, Transit & Traffic, Municipal Services, Health & Well-being, Education & Workforce Development, and Culture, Recreation, & Public Spaces.

I also collaborated with a CERN team leveraging gigabit fiber-to-the-home to enable citizen scientists who donate computing power and help analyze the massive data sets gathered by the Large Hadron Collider.

Undergraduate Research Fellow in materials science with the Center for Research on Interface Structures and Phenomena (CRISP). I worked in the O'Hern group performing numerical simulations of bulk metallic glass formation and data analysis on a supercomputer in C++ and R, resulting in a publication, "On the origin of multi-component bulk metallic glasses: Atomic size mismatches and de-mixing."

I developed two Android applications, “WHS On-site” and “WHS Collect,” used to obtain data on medical treatment and water quality and distribute educational reference materials on public health and medicine. World Help Solutions and partnering nonprofit organizations deployed these applications in Malawi, Haiti, Honduras, Congo, and Liberia on hundreds of phones and tablets.
